The Fictional Boyfriend Tag

April 8, 2020 5 min read 18 Comments

My work schedule is a mess, my responsibilities are in some weird state of limbo, and I have so much free time I’m overwhelmed. So instead of facing this head-on, I’m doing what every sane adult does from time to time and consciously putting them off!

And with this, I thought there couldn’t be a more perfect time to try out the Fictional Boyfriend Tag after seeing it on the blog, Confessions of a Booknerd, a couple of months back!

For this tag, you just answer the prompts below with the names of characters you admire (non-judging zone here) and if you want to get more detailed you can add why you think they’re a good fit!

Granted this tag is geared mostly towards book characters, but I’d thought it would be super fun to include TV and movie folk as well.

Time to cue the fangirling, rambling, and possible spoiler alerts:

THE MOST ROMANTIC BOYFRIEND

3000% (if you know, you know) Steve Rogers/Captain America!

Gah! Where do I even begin!?! This 95lb-asthmatic had my heart the first time he jumped over that dummy grenade in training camp (pre-serum and all). Now, of course, post-serum Steve is a snack but what I love most about him is how true he stays to his character, no matter what his exterior presents; weakling or superhero! Not to mention he’s ever the gentleman no matter what time period he’s in.

THE DARK AND MOODY BAD BOY WITH A GOOD SIDE

Stefan Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith. Granted Damon Salvatore (Stefan’s brother) should probably fill this slot, but I’ve always held a soft spot for brooding Stefan; savior instinct and all. Yes, I know his ultra-dark past and perpetual cynical outlook on life is quite depressing. But on the bright side, we do get to see how he changes for love (after meeting Elena).

Upon finding the love of his life, he finally feels like he has humanity back (something he’s yearned for since becoming a vamp), and queue the kleenex, he’ll stop at nothing to keep his true love happy.

Bonus he’s extremely compassionate, empathetic, plus he has a strong sense of morality. All the endearing qualities you look for in a fictional vampire boyfriend!

THE PARANORMAL BOYFRIEND

Dean Winchester from Supernatural hands down. Yes, he’d make a lousy real-life boyfriend (cocky, stubborn, & a bit of a vagabond) but this is fantasy land so we’re going with him.

Between saving the world on a regular basis, his great sense of humor, commitment to family, he’s an all-around perfect choice. Besides if a paranormal boyfriend looks like Jensen Ackles and loves pie I’m all in!

THE BOYFRIEND YOU WANT TO TAME

Geez… I don’t even know how to answer that one, but if I had to choose someone, I think I’d go with taming Bellamy Blake from seasons 1 & 2 of The 100. But, specifically, those seasons because he finally started to mellow out by season 4 on his own.

He was a little rough around the edges as in wild and impulsive…now that I mention it, maybe even self-destructive. Yet deep down, he has a great heart and I would have loved to be a character in that show to help flush out that softer, more rational side (sort of like a less intense version of his female bestie, Clarke).

THE BOY YOU FRIENDZONED

Percy Jackson, for sure, from the Percy Jackson & the Olympian Series by Rick Riordan. Yes, he saves you and the rest of the world, but on the flip side, he seems to attract danger wherever he goes…not in a good kinda way.

And if I’m being completely honest, Percy gives me that slightly cooler than Harry Potter vibe. Translation: Harry Potter = weirdly cool forever friend. Besides, Percy and Annabeth (Percaebeth) are too cute of a ship.

YOUR SOULMATE

As in forever forever?! Gah…this is ridiculously difficult because there’s a couple floating around in that head of mine.  Alright. Who am I kidding, Captain Steve Rogers… Mr. Red, White & Blue! Can you see my happy face from here?

He embodies morality, goodwill, kindness, compassion, intelligence chivalry, and haunting romanticism all rolled up into a buffed super-hero…hashtag SOULMATE!

THE BOY YOU’D VENTURE ANYWHERE WITH

Is it weird to say Indiana Jones? This dashing, adventurous archeologist would make the perfect adventure companion. Even if it’s just to the mall.

He’s smart, quick-witted, funny, a tenured professor, and a dapper dresser.  Oh, and that hat? BONUS!

Granted you’d get into a ton of questionable situations—potentially life-threatening on a daily basis—but oh the stories you’d be able to tell.

THE BOY YOU’D ELOPE WITH

Sorry Steve but Jamie Fraser (a.k.a James “Jamie” Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser) was already a close second on the soulmate list so he’s definitely number one on the elope list.

If this man isn’t the physical embodiment of loyalty and trust…(well a little shaky on the trust but ehh sometimes you gotta give a little to get a little), Jamie Fraser is a man who steps up—even at the potential cost of his life, or worse.

So if I had to pull a Claire Randall (the woman he elopes with on the show) and get married at the drop of a dime, I’m choosing him.

THE BOY YOU’D BE STRANDED ON A DESERTED ISLAND WITH

I’d choose the character “Four” aka Tobias Eaton from The Divergent Series hands down. I mean c’mon he’s almost fearless with only four fears—how many fears do you have?

o mention, he’s chivalrous, protective, brave, selfless plus pretty dang hot, if we go by the movie character. I’m 100% sure we’d…okay he’d, be able to save us if we were stuck on an island together.

THE MOST BAD ASS BOYFRIEND

I’m gonna say it! Ethan Hunt from the Mission Impossible Series. End of discussion!

Yes, my life would constantly be in danger and he’d be gone most of the time on classified missions but you can’t tell me he isn’t a badass!

I enjoy this list. I am going to have to try it out. I agree with quite a few of your assessments and choices. Hello Jamie, let’s runaway together.

Try it out! I can’t wait to see your answers!

Heck to the yeah about Jamie! When I was watching Outlander I couldn’t help but think that it wouldn’t be so bad to run away with him, lol ?!

  • kindkristine April 9, 2020 at 9:19 am

I love this! So cute! And I would agree with quite a bit of those boyfriends! (Ethan Hunt, Percy Jackson, Captain America!). I’m going to have to try this, it was cute.

OMG! I love The Vampire Diaries!!

    • annaelleliz April 10, 2020 at 12:53 pm

One of my favorite shows! I cried so much at the season finale!

  • Deb B. April 9, 2020 at 4:04 am

Hahah! I love this! And my girlfriends would love this too, as we’re always talking about our fictional boyfriends from our fave tv shows. (I’ll always be about McDreamy….). Of this list – for sure I’m all about The Dark and Moody Bad Boy with a Good Side. So tired of the run of the mill bad boy. hahah. Too much Drama. I married the Romantic Boyfriend, or the boy I’d be stranded on an island with. i’m pretty much doing that right now! hahah

    • annaelleliz April 10, 2020 at 12:52 pm

This made my day! My girlfriends and I talk about fictional boos all the time too.

I completely forget about McDreamy ? and totally agree that The Dark and Moody Bad Boy with a Good Side > The Sterotyical Bad Boy.

So sweet you married the Romantic Boyfriend (seriously goals)! Loling at the being stranded part, that’s so true now!

  • Bunmi April 9, 2020 at 12:28 am

Lol! Love this post. 3000% Cap! Steve Rogers. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

So glad you liked it! I thought some levity was needed this month 🙂 YES! If only Captain Rogers was real *dreamily sighs*
