7 Best Fall Makeup Looks

October 27, 2021 4 min read 20 Comments

Ahh, fall…my happy place and my favorite time of the year. As I write this, I’m slowly sipping my fav fall drink (vanilla chai latte with pumpkin spice) with my new fall nails (hello burnt orange), dressed in cozy flannels, and a pair of lovingly worn fuzzy booties. To top it off, my house smells like your favorite coffee shop mixed with salted pumpkin (thank you Marshall’s and Burlington home clearance section)!

But because that’s just not enough fall for this gal, there’s one other thing that gets me toxically giddy about fall and that’s the wide range of makeup looks I can play with. The seasonal switch from sunkissed subtler summer looks to the warmer cozier fall looks is what I’m here for.

Whether you’re planning to make a statement at a Halloween party or just want to switch up your day-to-day makeup looks, these tips should come in handy.

Here are my 7 favorite fall makeup looks that’ll make you swoon:

KITTENN EYELINER

Think a cat-eye but just shorter and a hair more subtle, makeup artists have named it the “kitten eyeliner”. Unlike the classic cat-eye,  the kitten eyeliner has you start your application at the center of the eye then using short thin strokes to follow the line of the out-eye toward its edge. You can even give it a little flick at the end for a dainty wing.

BERRY-COLORED LIPS

Who doesn’t love a deep berry-shade lipstick in the fall? I’m thinking high-shine plum, dark cherry, vibrant purple, warm dark brown, and deep burgundy shades for a classic, vintage vibe. You can pair it with black eyeliner, nude eyeshadow, and a dab of pale blush to complete the fall look.

DEWY CHEEKS

What goes smashingly well with matte berry or cocoa brown lipstick? Soft, dewy cheeks. Use a moisturizing primer before applying your foundation to give your skin a smooth and supple look. Use a liquid highlighter to draw attention to the high points of your face and a contouring stick in a slightly darker shade than your foundation to accent major cheekbone game for days.

Tip: Remember to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face every day to boost the natural glow of your skin which can be enhanced with makeup.

LONG LASHES

Make your lashes look thicker and fuller without getting extensions for a perfect fall look. All you have to do is use an eyelash curler before you apply the mascara. Some makeup experts recommend using a blow dryer on the curler tool, for about five seconds, before using it on your eyes (still a little terrified of that though). The heat helps make your eyelashes seem fuller. A bolder eyeliner will also give your lashes that va-va-va-vroom thick lash look.

LIPSTICKS GALORE

Whether your schtick is a lip stain, creamy wave, matte till you can’t matte no more or a classy non-sticky gloss, nothing will brighten up your face more than choosing a good flattering lip color. Play around with different types and tones even mixing some to get that personalized color that makes your pout feel fabulous.

Tip:  Don’t forget to lightly rub your lips with a gentle lip scrub or make your own with (raw) sugar, your favorite essential oil (coconut, olive, almond, etc.), and honey.  Not only will you be exfoliating dead skin that needs removing, but you’ll also be prepping those puckers up for the ultimate in softness during the coming in temps but also for…um…mistletoe (wink).

GRAPHIC EYELINER

Want to add a little pop of color to your eyes? Try a graphic liner look. Start by drawing a thin white line along your crease and then paint on a bold contrasting color (yellow, orange, or red).  Then, blend your base shade with the liner for an Oscar-worthy dramatic fall look.

ROSY GLOW

What says “fall” better than a natural rosy glow? Get that flawless blush look by adding a dash of a cream or liquid blush to the apple of your cheeks and the tips of your nose.  Next, follow with a subtle sweep of color across your forehead and chin with a light dusting of a highlighter for the perfect finish. Pair with glossy lip color for a nice low-key evening out with friends or a get-to-know-me dinner date.

CONCLUSION

Be it a no-makeup look, vintage browns, and mauves, vibrant and bold colors, high-shine gloss, or even warm pastel hues, fall is the perfect time to experiment with your look.

I think my favorite might be the graphic eyeliner but the berry lips are such a close second!

That berry colored lipstick looks really beautiful. Thanks for sharing these looks.

It is fun to play with makeup in the fall. My daughter has been making some really fantastic fall looks too.

    • annaelleliz October 31, 2021 at 10:18 pm

I feel like you can be a little more adventurous with makeup in the colder seasons and fall is just perfect for some berry, smokey, and darker hues!

All these makup looks are so beautiful! Dewy cheeks and berry-colored lips are my favorite!

    • annaelleliz October 31, 2021 at 10:17 pm

Dewy looks are just *chefs kiss* I love how you can get that all over glow and brighten your face up!

  • Richelle Escat October 28, 2021 at 6:51 am

I’m not really good when it comes to make up. I hope Berry shades will looked great on me too. It’s so sexy.

    • annaelleliz October 31, 2021 at 10:17 pm

I still get intimidated by berry shades too 😂! I tend to keep it simple with a clear lip gloss or neutral shade!

  • Ana De-Jesus October 28, 2021 at 6:47 am

I love Berry lipstick, and rosy cheeks. I think it is such a great combination for autumn and winter.

    • annaelleliz October 31, 2021 at 10:15 pm

Yes! It’s so perfect for the colder seasons to add some warmth to a makeup look!

  • Beth October 27, 2021 at 8:50 pm

I like all these looks! If I was younger and more confident about wearing makeup I might even try some.

    • annaelleliz October 28, 2021 at 1:19 am

Aww so glad you like them! I say go for it! You’ll probably look amazing in any of these 🥰!

  • Kelli A October 27, 2021 at 5:37 pm

I love the fall colors and natural looks. This is my type of make up style

    • annaelleliz October 28, 2021 at 1:18 am

Same! I like the soft natural glam looks!

  • Tasheena October 27, 2021 at 5:05 pm

All of these looks are so pretty! I can’t wait to try and recreate some of them.

    • annaelleliz October 28, 2021 at 1:11 am

Hehe, thank you! I’m dying to try the kitten eyeliner but I can’t help myself from doing a full winged look 😂

  • Amber Myers October 27, 2021 at 4:58 pm

I like your tips. I might have to try some of them out. I do like the lip shades!

    • annaelleliz October 28, 2021 at 1:10 am

Thanks! The fall lip shades always makes me want to switch up the routine and go more daring and bolder!

•
Well, this time last year, something felt really at odds with my spirit. I realized I needed a break from  social media— more so a break from Anna Elle Liz.
•
Believe it or not, I don’t particularly like spending a heckuva lot of  time on social media. For me, I've found that I’m more drained rather than replenished my when get my scroll on (hmmmp…  maybe someday I'll write  a blog post on that — Navigating Social Media When You Don't Really Like Social Media).Throw in all the viewing, reading, watching & clicking  - and a recipe for a major timeout was brewing.
•
Nuturing my personal and creative life, my growth made it clear that meeting the demands of Anna Elle Liz was something I could no longer do with the same excitement and vigor I once did.
 •
So, all this to say that Anna Elle Liz will be back (you know I can't miss out on Fall content) but at a slower and less scheduled pace.
•
You must also know that I can't even think about a return without extending a super big thank you to all of the kind followers/supporters who've patiently waited with me,  during my hiatus.

Cheers to you! Cheers to re-starting content again! And, cheer to reaching 3-years of Anna Elle Liz with y.o.u.

We all know about the stars of Thanksgiving…the main characters, turkey and ham. But what about the supporting cast, the secondary stars of the show; the side dishes. I mean without the sides, can the main dishes even shine?
·
The stuffing, the creamy mashed potatoes, the corn on the cob, the green bean casserole, the mac ’n’ cheese, … yep, I can take this train to foreverville. For now, I present you with a definitive and completely non-subjective ranking of some of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes!

If you could only eat one dish for Thanksgiving, what would it be?

Name a more perfect fall photo 🍎
·
I love me some pumpkin, but apples are another great fall staple. And there's something about going apple picking with a basket and plaid scarf that feels like I'm fresh out of a New England town.

It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to Thanksgiving and the day that is set aside to feel thankful for what we have.
·
But how can we turn gratitude into a daily habit instead of a once-a-year holiday obligation?
·
By recognizing the abundance we already have…our family, our relationships, our material things that bring us comfort and our memories, dreams, and hopes.
·
Our lives can be enriched so much if we take the time to be thankful and see the good in all that we have.
