Getting Your Life Back on Track

September 29, 2021 4 min read 20 Comments

For the past few weeks, life has been a little rough, I’m talking half balancing work half ordering takeout while in sweatpants and on a Netflix bender. I mean on the plus side I have a ton of movie recommendations but on the downside, I’ve gotten into this vicious cycle of working all day, watching movies during the night, and sleeping maybe?  So while I’ve been trying to balance both aspects of well… life, I thought I’d share some of the steps I’ve been taking to feel like my best self again.

DO THE THINGS YOU DON’T WANT TO DO

A big reason why we feel stuck is that we’re doing the things we want to do instead of doing things we don’t want to do. Let me explain. If you’re like me, you’ve spent a lot of time already this summer binging Netflix. But you haven’t created a plan for your blog (guilty), collected a list of people you want to network with, or made a to-do list for personal items in your life.

*looks at myself and cringes*

Ultimately, the things that make us uncomfortable are going to help us grow. It may be easy to stick with what you know but going out on a limb and tackling items that are out of our comfort zone is going to be more beneficial for you in the long run.

ORGANIZING AND CLEANING

I love organizing and cleaning! No seriously, I feel my best self when I can get my Marie Kono on and see the immediate results of tackling a task that not only needs to be done but makes the space look and feel better in the process. There’s nothing like a lets-get-focused clean and if you have the time, there’s nothing like a deep clean.

Whether it be physically or digitally, getting clear on what you want in and out of your life  –through cleaning– is a provider of true clarity. What kind of clarity? The kind where your mind and physical space will thank you!

FIND AN ANCHOR

If you’ve ever watched an episode of that TV show Teen Wolf, you’ll remember that the characters all have anchors a.k.a things that keep werewolves and shapeshifters from losing their humanity. Well, while we don’t have to be as melodramatic as a fictional TV show, we can still embrace a solid takeaway which is to find one thing that can change the trajectory of your day, week, or month.

If you’re extraverted, a quick chat with a cashier, grocery packer, etc., can really light up both your days. If you’re introverted, spending some “me” time with yourself, if for no other reason than to recharge your batteries, can bring unexpected peace. If you’re a person of faith, committing to reading not only your bible but also including different uplifting spiritual works as well as prayer, can be your anchor that fuels you.

For me, I’m actually still looking for the proverbial brick to smack me on the head with my anchor but I’m pretty sure self-care might be it. I’m in one of my happy places when I carve out that type of care and it gives me just the reset I need for a more balanced life

ADDRESS AN ASPECT OF WELLNESS

When you think about wellness, what aspects do you think they include? If you one thought…one, maybe two… you’re not wrong but you might be just a hair off. There are actually 8 dimensions or aspects of wellness: occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual.

Each dimension is interconnected or equally vital to one’s pursuit of their very best optimum health and it’s suggested that we all try to do one simple thing every day to support each one of the 8 dimensions. Maybe for the physical, you’ll do a quick 30 min workout. For the environmental, you can spend time in nature by doing things like taking a small hike or even doing something as simple, yet equally gratifying, as taking a slow and “present” walk in a local park. For the social, grab a colored pen and some fun stationery or card stock and send a note to a friend with a self-addressed envelope or get digital and host an interactive zoom party.

Get as creative or low-key as you’d like, but the point is to travel those dimensions like you’re Elon Musk on a mission. For more tips and info, check out: 8 Dimensions of Wellness: Our wellness begins by looking at where it isn’t

This is something I am working on and would like to try some of your tips. It really helps to make small changes that make big differences.

One step at a time is the way to go! And sometimes embracing the moments of being off track or not having your best day helps too!

I agree, sometimes we get overwhelmed and tend to lose our focus on our goals but we should get back in track asap

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:51 am

Yep! Sometimes in that period of getting off track it’s exactcly what you need to reset!

  • Ivan Jose October 1, 2021 at 2:58 am

I definitely need to regain my focus. I’m so busy with a lot of things right now that I’m already beginning to feel overwhelmed.

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:50 am

So sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed—I can definitely relate! I think sometimes embracing not feeling your best or not getting tasks done is okay, too!

  • swathiiyer October 1, 2021 at 1:13 am

Yes I am getting life track back. I need to organize and clear clutter especially in my daughter’s room.

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:46 am

There’s always something that needs to be organized or cleaned…it’s never-ending 😂

  • Louisa September 30, 2021 at 1:22 pm

I have learnt the get the “hardest” task out of the way first . It helps with all the motivation I need to clear off my to-do list

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:44 am

Oh that’s a good tip! I tend to get the eaisest one’s on the way first so I’m the opposite.

I’m working on organising and cleaning. It helps relax my mind when the chaos the kids have created has been put in its place.

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:44 am

Haha, working at a daycare gave me some first hand experience with the chaos kiddos can create!

  • Gervin Khan September 30, 2021 at 11:09 am

Well, when I lose track of my goals I’ll just take a rest and listen to music. It relax me and then I’ll remember my goals.

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:39 am

Rest and reset is always a great choice! Music for sure helps a lot too! Any go-to song recs? I tend to love Island in the Sun by Weezer to re-motivate me 😁

  • Richelle Escat September 30, 2021 at 3:37 am

I agree. We can spoil ourselves sometimes but we shouldn’t lose track of our goals.

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:37 am

It’s for sure of balance of taking time of to align yourself to get back that motivation while not losing yourself in that time off!

  • pacioalita9 September 30, 2021 at 1:02 am

Every time I lose track of my goals, or when I feel not motivated I love to do some deep cleanings to. It eases my mind and calms me

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:35 am

I feel ya there! It’s like controlling something that’s easier to tackle, like cleaning, can jog some sense of motivation.

  • Amber Myers September 29, 2021 at 5:47 pm

I do try to jog daily. That helps keep things centered. And I do organize some things, but I admit, I have clutter!

    • annaelleliz October 3, 2021 at 12:32 am

Maybe I should take up jogging! That seems like a great way to center your thoughts and have a moment of solitude.
