Weekend Plans for the Non-Frequent Partygoer

September 4, 2019 2 min read 4 Comments

This article is adapted from my post for Her Campus at Chapel Hill. Click here to check it out!

I wouldn’t classify myself as a homebody per se, but if I had the option of getting dressed up for a party or putting on some jammies and watching Netflix, I’d choose the latter!  Now don’t get me wrong, going to a party every once in a while can be fun, but it’s not something I want to do every single weekend.

So for my fellow ‘stay-inners’, here’s 4 alternatives to partying on the weekend:

HAVE A MEAL NIGHT!

Gather a few friends, pick out a few recipes, go grocery shopping, then make some yummy food together! Not only do you get a chance to bond on another level, but you can even add some competitive twists.

For example, using Top Chef as inspiration, get a bunch of different ingredients that kind of work well together —or not—mix them up in a basket, then go head-to-head trying to make a creative (edible) dish!

GO TO AN ADVENTUR PARK!

Have an active group of friends? Try going to an adventure park. I would personally love an adventure park with a bunch of different activities to try so you’re not bored (I have the attention span of a squirrel). Ziplining, paintballing, laser tag … the more options the better.

VOLUNTEER!

Volunteering is such a great way to support your community or even one in a nearby neighborhood. Plus, it’s a healthy alternative for going out … minus the partying.

Bonus? You’re bound to meet interesting people that might just become lifelong friends or more. One of my college buds actually met her boyfriend volunteering with Habitat for Humanity!

CHECK OUT THE LOCAL SCENE!

Take the free time you do have to check out the local scene around your school. Many communities have traditions and or events native to the history of a specific town or county.  If wandering around isn’t your thing, try searching Facebook for exciting events in your area.

While going to parties can sometimes be a great stress reliever, there’s sooooo much more to being in college than just partying. Take a second to try new things, be open to new friendships, and create new experiences you’ll remember long after happy hour!

What’s your go-to weekend plan if you’re not partying?

Great advice! I love checking out local festivals and events, especially in the summer because there is so much to do around our area.

Thank you! I always love stumbling upon festivals in the city or other free events too! There’s so much more to do in NYC than party.

I love these ideas! As a non-party girl myself, I’m always looking for fun alternatives like these!

Yeah – so glad you liked them! I was always looking for alternatives in college which can be quite difficult.
